A dog is man's best friend, and that is nowhere more true than in law enforcement. Police dogs pursue fleeing suspects, track missing people, and sniff out drugs, explosives and cadavers. Help them to take a bite out of crime with our selection of high quality K9 gear. Our collection includes collars, leads and other accessories from trusted manufacturers such as Boston Leather.
Dog leashes and leads come in different lengths depending on the task at hand. Traffic leads may be as short as 11 inches. The reduced length allows the handler to keep closer control of the dog in order to keep it safe from vehicles. Agitation leads and collars are used for protection dogs. The leads are longer than traffic leads to allow the dog the freedom of movement it needs to take down a suspect, up to six feet in some cases. They are also built for extreme strength in order to give the handler control of a powerful dog, allowing them to prevent it from re-biting when the suspect is already subdued. They are designed for use with wide, strong agitation collars that can be two inches across for a large model. Tracking leashes are typically the longest, in order to allow a tracking dog maximum freedom to sniff out a scent trail and increase the amount of ground that it is able to cover during a search. Tracking leads can be extremely long, up to around 50 feet.
Typically, K9 equipment is made from leather, often constructed with both stitching and rivets for increased strength, particularly for agitation leads and collars. However, nylon gear is also popular, thanks to its extreme strength, light weight and weather resistance. Combined with steel or brass hardware, its strength makes failure extremely unlikely during use, even when exposed to strong forces.
