Rob Pincus here for SWAT magazine with another great product that's available at Cops Plus. Today we're talking about the Otis 9 mm complete pistol cleaning system. You may be familiar with these compact kits from Otis. I know that I keep them in my range bags. I recommend them to students and we use them on the range quite a bit. They're very convenient and they are complete. What's great about these kits, it comes with everything you need from a solvent and rust preventative, the patches, which of course you'll have to replace as you run through them, and, if you're not familiar with exactly how to use the different parts inside, it even comes with a training CD/DVD that you can use in your computer.There's actually a lot more than you're probably going to need for a simple cleaning, for the simple cleaning that we're going to do here today on video. I've got two memory flex rods, one of which has a slotted tip. One of the important things about the Otis kit and the patches that actually come with it, is that there's a big STOP on the back and a warning to read the directions and figure out exactly how you're supposed to use these Otis patches with this memory flex rod and the slotted tip. We want to go ahead and pass through the soft side into one of these pre cut holes that actually exists in the patch already. Once we get through there, we're then simply going to fold this in half, pinch and then push that through the slot and then pull the rest of the patch up so that we know that we have a lot of coverage area. Once we actually have this set up, we're going to go ahead and take the ultra-bore, the Otis solvent, the 085, and according to the instructions, we're going to place three drops onto the patch. A little extra large glob there. That's all right. We're going to take and feed this rod through the breach out to the muzzle and we're going to pass through, pulling, getting a good grip on that, and feeding it all the way through a third time. There are different systems available for different calibers of pistol and, of course, for rifles and shot guns. The instructions will be a little bit different, depending on which type of firearm you're actually going to be cleaning. Next, I'm going to take the brush. I'm going to assemble that onto the other memory flex rod, feed that through. The idea is, I can clean this as efficiently as possible. You might want to disassemble your gun. You might want to use some of the other tools that are involved here. For example, we have this brush, we have this re-directive device, which is actually going to focus a lot of light down in through the barrel, so you can actually take a look and see what's going on in the barrel and make sure you don't have any dings or any pitting going on. There's a lot of different things you can do with this system, but the quick and dirty three runs through the patch, three runs for the brush. Now we're going to go back to the patch. This is where the directions are very specific. What you want to do is reset your patch. You don't want to run through exactly the same place, but you can reuse the patch. I'm going to reset the patch back to its full open area. I used this before. You can see that's where most of the dirt is. I used this area of the patch. Now I'm going to use this area of the patch, over here on the other side. Three. That's the quick and dirty, cleans breach to muzzle per the instructions on the back of the Otis 9 mm Complete Pistol Cleaning System. You probably want to get one for each one of the firearms you own, maybe for each one of your range bags, and, of course, have a complete collection of Otis cleaning systems that you can use for all the firearms that you own, whether you use them for home defense or on duty. | |||||||||||
