Fixed blade knives were the first kind of knife ever invented, but they remain relevant in law enforcement and survival applications to this day. While not as compact as a folder, they provide unmatched strength and reliability. We carry fixed blades from some of the world's finest knifemakers, including SOG, KA-BAR and Columbia River.
Fixed blade knives will always have a place in a survival pack thanks to their extremely reliability. Unlike a folding or automatic knife they have no moving parts, giving them very few points of failure. Full tang blades in particular are extremely strong, making them the tool of choice for the most challenging survival tasks. It is no accident that the largest, most powerful knives are all fixed blades. However, not all fixed blade knives are Bowie-style monsters. Their simplicity also makes them a popular option for concealable neck knives.
Fixed blade knives come in a variety of styles, designed to accomplish different tasks. Drop point and clip point blades are, as ever, very popular thanks to their ability to both pierce and slice effectively. Of particular note are Bowie knives, which are a clip point style that features a sharpened trailing edge on the clip, opening up advanced and deadly fighting technique like the infamous back cut.
Because the blade of a fixed blade knife cannot be folded away for safety, they typically come with a sheath to protect both it and the user during carry. Knife sheaths are traditionally made from leather. However, modern synthetic materials such as thermoplastic and Cordura are also commonly used. Sheaths with belt clips are easy to carry at the waist, and some designs are also MOLLE compatible for attachment to webbing. Neck knives typically come with a neck sheath on a lanyard for around-the-neck wear.
