Ankle holsters are a popular choice among law enforcement officers for carrying a backup firearm, but they are also an excellent way to carry a single firearm off duty or while on covert operations. They are typically worn concealed around the ankle beneath the pants leg, but some models can also be attached to a boot to take the weight off your leg, either out of the box or when equipped with an optional boot extender. Most ankle holsters are designed for compact or subcompact pistols and revolvers. We sell ankle holsters from world-famous manufacturers, including Galco, Safariland, Gould & Goodrich, DeSantis and Bianchi.
Ankle holsters provide a few useful tactical advantages. It is easier to conceal under clothing than a shoulder holster and more comfortable to wear in a seated position than an inside-the-waistband style. It is also less limited by your apparel, wearing a jacket is uncomfortable on a hot day, but pants are suitable for almost all weather conditions. A typical ankle holster consists of a molded holster pocket attached to an adjustable strap that wraps around the ankle. The leg strap is typically made of an elastic material such as neoprene for a comfortable fit that can stretch and flex as you move, while the pocket is usually either leather or a synthetic material like Cordura. A typical holster has a single strap, but some come with multiple straps for a more stable fit. Premium designs often come with a sheepskin lining or foam padding, providing valuable cushioning between the firearm and your leg. The holsters come with a range of retention systems to ensure that the firearm stays securely inside as you move. Quick-release thumb breaks allow rapid access when required, and some models come equipped with advanced automatic locking systems.
