The leather is custom molded to the firearm, and retention in very good. I originally bought this for an easy on-off holster that I could leave in my car during work (no weapons signs on all building doors) without worrying about the gun slipping out while I remove it and put it back on. The only regret I have is purchasing the thumb break version. The retention is so good that it isn't necessary. I'd recommend the non thumb break version unless you're really concerned about retention or you're an LEO and your department requires it. The holster also stays open in my waistband after drawing which is good for one handed reholstering One thing that may turn people off is that the leather is pretty thick. The clip is also directly over the gun, which makes it more likely to print through over shirts.
